NASSAU SHUTSDOWN FALL SEASON, 4-0
"It was not the best way for the fall season to come to a close, that is for sure, "  Coach Puccio remarked after the final out was recorded in Nassau's 4-0 victory. "Overall, though, I am very satisfied with the fall season.  We answered a lot of questions that we had regarding positions, and we showed a real true chemistry on this team. I am looking forward to the season ahead."
SLOPPY DEFENSE DOOMS SEAHAWKS
Fall to Suffolk Selden, 6-3, and manage just 3 hits
Head Coach Gary Puccio didn't seem too happy with the performance of his Seahawks this afternoon. "We didnt pitch well, we played shoddy defense again, and we didn't hit.  I wouldn't call it one of our better performances."  Puccio had good reasons for his dismay -- three of the first four runs for the Clippers were unearned off starter Matt Gelormino who hurt his own cause with an errant pick off throw as well. The poor defense continued, as Briarcliffe overthrew third base on a wild double play attempt that lead to another Selden run.  Briarcliffe trailed 4-0 after three. Gelormino allowed five runs in three and a third innings of work, but only 2 of the runs were earned.  Dave Darcy pitched the next 2 and 1/3 innings and was extremely effective. However, a missed popup at first base led to another unearned Clipper run. Jeff DeLuca followed and threw a 1-2-3 seventh inning, while Rafael Perez pitched a scoreless eighth.

Offensively, the Seahawks had a very frustrating day, managing just three hits.  However, when Vin Aprano singled home the third run for Briarcliffe, some hope arose.  Briarcliffe did manage to bring the tying run to the plate in both the seventh and ninth innings, but were unable to capitalize in either spot.  The Seahawks conclude the fall season TOMORROW, OCTOBER 12 at NOON at the PAL COMPLEX vs. NASSAU.

RADER, RASCHEN LEAD COMEBACK WIN
Late inning heroics lead Seahawks by Suffolk West, 6-5
Scott Rader's 2 run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning helped launch a comeback by the Seahawks on their way to an exciting 6-5 win.  Rader's homer cut the deficit from 5-2 to 5-4 and opened the doors to a Briarcliffe comeback.  Drew Raschen followed Rader's homer with a double, and with 2 out and a 1-2 strike, Gabe Ermmarino drove a ball into right center to give the Seahawks a 5-5 tie. Suffolk West led 5-1 coming into the bottom of the seventh inning.
It was time to turn the ball over to captain Jason Castillo, who was nearly perfect in his 2 innings of relief.  That set the stage for a wild bottom of the ninth inning. Drew Raschen led off with a double, and after Briarcliffe was unable to sacrifice him to third, Gabe Ermmarino hit a ball up the middle that was knocked down by the SUffolk West 2b who came up throwing to home to nail Jason Castillo at the plate for the second out of the inning.  Ermmarino then moved up on two wild pitches, and after a walk to Tom Locrotondo, Tim Coglietta stepped to the plate.  Coglietta hit a slow roller to first, with a lot of backspin, backspin that forced the SUffolk first baseman to allow the ball to go through his legs (billy buckner anyone?).  Coglietta was safe at first, Ermmarino safe at home, and the Seahawks suddenly have won their third straight game.
SEAHAWKS RETURN TO WINNING WAYS
Defeat Bergen in both games of DH, 5-0 and 13-5

Matt Gelormino, Jason Castillo and Gabe Errmarino combined to three hit Bergen CC in the opener of a doubleheader on Saturday, October 4 in New Jersey.  The Seahawks led 1-0 until the top of the seventh, when they exploded for four more runs to put the game away.  Tom Locrotondo continued his impressive fall as did perrenial standout Reggie Smith.  Despite a lack of tremendous offense, the team defense and pitching kept Bergen scoreless throughout the game.
In game 2, after trailing 3-1 in the fourth, the Seahawks exploded for six runs in the fifth and never looked back as they romped to a 13-5 victory.  Matt Antonacci continued his outstanding fall (all three runs against him were unearned) in picking up  the victory.  Vin Aprano continued his solid freshman campaign on the mound, tossing two shutout innings.  Jeff DeLuca, another newcomer, and captain Jason Castillo closed the game out.  Scott Rader continues his hot hitting for the Seahawks.

SHEA HOMERS IN COMEBACK VS. MERCY

Newcomer Steve Shea ignited a comeback for the Seahawks on Friday October 3 at Mercy College.  With Briarcliffe trailing by a score of 2-0, Shea's homer cut the lead in half and set up a dramatic ninth inning comeback as Briarcliffe tied Mercy 2-2 in a game stopped after 9 innings.  Despite loading the bases in the top of the ninth with no one out, the Seahawks were unable to score more than once.  Closer Gabe Errmarino, who came on in the bottom of the seventh with the bases loaded and two out and Mercy already leading 2-0, stopped the damage and finished the game with 2 and 1/3 innings of quality relief. The Seahawks will play a Doubleheader tomorrow (October 4) at Bergen Community College.  Game time is Noon.

    POST HAMMERS SEAHAWKS, 7-1
POOR DEFENSE IN FOUR RUN SIXTH SPELLS DOOM

A pitchers duel that had CW Post and Briarcliffe locked in a 1-1 tie blew up in the bottom of the sixth inning as Post scored four unearned runs. Post actually never hit a ball out of the infield, getting two infield hits, a hit batter, two walks, and one critical error to give them a 5-1 lead which they never looked back on.  Rafael Perez took the loss despite giving up no earned runs in his two innings of relief. Vin Aprano, making his first start for the Seahawks, pitched no-hit ball for the first three innings. The offense, however, continues to struggle to put together enough hits. Head Coach Gary Puccio, now in his fourth year at the helm, didn't sound worried. "It's fall.  We are trying things, and trying to find out things. So far, this team has shown me a lot of effort, and that is the important thing. I would like to see us hit better, sure, but overall I am pleased with our progress." The Seahawks next play Mercy on Friday, October 3.

       RASCHEN, BRAVERMAN HOMER

Sam Braverman's first inning home run gave the Seahawks a 3-0 lead against Molloy, but Briarcliffe was unable to hold that lead.  Another lead was provided by Drew Raschen's tie-breaking 2 run homer in the fifth that put Briarcliffe ahead 5-3.  Molloy scored in the bottom of the eighth and one in the bottom of the ninth to end the game in a 5-5 tie.  Molloy then took the nightcap, 3-0, holding the Seahawks to just four hits.

FALL OPENER A BUST FOR SEAHAWKS

Despite impressive outings from Lee Ranta and Matt Antonacci, who held Concordia to just one earned run over the first six innings of play, the Seahawks fell, and fell hard, to the Clippers, 18-3.  Freshman Dave Darcy managed three hits in his first collegiate contest, but otherwise the offensive highlights were few and far between.  When head coach Gary Puccio was questioned about the opener, he responded with, "Well, it's all uphill from here. Or, at least, I hope so!" Puccio and his ballclub will have to wait until next week, when they face Molloy, a team that routinely has manhandled the Seahawks in the past. "Great scheduling, huh?" the skipper laughed, before adding, "I am sure we will be fine." Game time at Molloy for September 20 is noon.
